W&M Glenlossie (2010-2023) - Cask Strength

Sometimes, maturation in sherry casks can produce surprising and unpredictable results. In this case, the result is neither explicitly fruity nor "wine-like," at least not at first. After two years of finishing in this type of cask, this Speyside malt reaches perfect maturity. As it airs, it reveals buttery notes, licorice, and even a subtle but intriguing hint of fuel. But what really makes it surprising is that toasty note! On the palate, it becomes more predictable: creamy, but not overly sweet. There are raisins, dried plums, and a very fragrant note of oak. Then, suddenly, it becomes spicier, more peppery, tannic, and mineral. And just before the end... here comes the sweetness, with a marked note of black chestnut honey!
