W&M Caol Ila (2016-2024) - Classic Selection

Born from a blend of four second-fill bourbon casks and one of Wilson & Morgan's virgin oak casks, this special bottling successfully combines different nuances and styles of this classic Islay Single Malt. The second-fill casks bring an airy, maritime feel, while the stronger virgin oak influence adds just the right amount of robustness and structure. On the nose, it is fresh, citrusy, and slightly smoky: it is young, vibrant, powerful, and bold. On the palate, it is medium-bodied: iodine-laced, with notes of lemon peel and green apple, then evolving into flavors of licorice and a strong burst of smoke, ash, and wood fires. The virgin oak brings a slightly darker tone, with notes of tar, pine, and a spicy touch of tannins, without however overpowering the distillery's decidedly traditional style.
